Jeremy had spent the morning in Santa Monica at HQ. He was really taking his time this day to get to know the new facilities and was really excited about the library they had. Thousands of hours of HWA programming were at their fingertips to watch at any time along with programming from a variety of other feds, superstar records, old interviews, and a host of things were all stored in their database. The shelves were filled with books covering competitive sports going back to the gladiators in the Colosseum, all the way to modern MMA. Autobiographies, Sports Magazines, and Sports Medicine case studies….they had a really solid bit of information for everyone to sink their teeth into and being the nerd that he was, this was all up Jeremy’s alley. It was a surprisingly quite environment considering the business of the other floors, especially the training floors below, but comfortable seating, a coffee / tea bar and private study rooms made this almost like home.
All this history around him made him think of his upcoming match. He wasn’t sure if they just got off on the wrong foot, if it was a case of misunderstanding, if he being brash, if Dragon being overconfident, were words somehow just getting in the way? He didn’t want to make an enemy of the guy, but he felt “dismissed” for lack of a better term. To him Dragon seemed to approach this match as if it was a foregone conclusion he being the veteran was going to win, and that word “humility” had just rubbed him the wrong way. The last few years, he, Matt, Sean, and others he was in the ring with always shook hands, and had a “May the best man win” sort of mentality. Now that HWA had really kicked off, and these veterans were back, that old-school “I’m gonna kick your ass” mentality seemed to bleed into things. Whatever the case was…here they were staring down the barrel of Havoc a week away and he needed to respond to his opponent.
(Jeremy): What a coincidence your history lesson is Professor Dragon, and how timely. It just so happens that I’ve been studying up on you ever since I learned of your HWA debut at the Reunion Show during Ronnie McNeil's speech…how you and Sirius Payne literally crashed onto the scene March 2009 going on about “Southern Pride” and draping that flag over people you beat down.
Jeremy at a computer in one of the study rooms, puts on his glasses and scrolls through the database until he finds what he’s looking for.
(Jeremy): The record books show that you spent a few weeks jumping people before you finally had your official first match at Havoc against Ronnie McNeil and Eddie Phoenix…and you guys actually pulled off the win. Then a week or so later one-on-one McNeil put you to the mat. Let’s see…what else…
He continues clicking and scrolling, mumbling to himself as he goes along.
(Jeremy): ….tag match…..didn’t make it Ring Master….tag match….run-in….Whoa, disappeared for the rest of the year…..
Jeremy looks back at the camera.
(Jeremy): Man, like two months in and you disappear? I’m not being a wise-ass here by asking, it actually doesn’t say and I’m honestly curious…. what happened? Did you get an injury? Was that when your kid was born? Had to be something huge I’m guessing.
Jeremy returns to scrolling and looking at records.
(Jeremy): …okay, came back 2010 with Fallen…tag match…okay, okay…singles win over Grunge….single win over Deas, with Anarchist Vampire….a couple tag matches….single match loss to Michael…. Okay…lemme see…….Nice….you guys win the Tag Team Championship that year during the Australia Tour……Oh…this is interesting….says here at The Other Side in 2011 you squared off in a triple threat match against Maniac and AC James what was that all about?…wait a sec…
Jeremy’s eyes widen as he reads on.
(Jeremy): Holy shit…it says you won the match by DQ and was #1 Contender for the All Star Championship. I bet they didn’t take that too well huh, especially Maniac?...Hmmmm…oh okay…so you got your title opportunity against Eddie Phoenix but he retained…what next?….bunch of tag matches…Ohhhhh a singles match with Fallen, was this when things started going south for your guys? Nice job, though…says you took the win here…..singles match again, Ahhh you went after Heinrich for the All Star Championship but he had you on that one.
Jeremy closes all the windows on the computer screen and refocuses on the camera taking his studious looking glasses off.
(Jeremy): I think I get it, there’s a definite patter here. You’re undeniably a veteran Dragon. But the thing is, that’s for tag matches which you specialized in most of your HWA career. I’ll admit I don’t know much about what you’ve done with yourself these past years, but since we’re on the subject of history….you seem to have a history of getting most of your singles wins when you had back up. There’s no Sons of Anarchy in your back pocket these days. Fallen’s busy with some sorted history of his between himself and those two new guys that came in at Havoc. I don’t even know who Anarchist Vampire or Sirius Payne really are too much so I’m guessing they’re in your rear view mirror.
Jeremy holds his hand up in protest.
(Jeremy): Now before you go and start making assumption…I’m not trying to be a wise ass, truly. It just seems that you’ve won more when you had backup and going it solo, came up short for the big ones. At Havoc it’s just going to be you and me, and this is a big one, the first Havoc to kick-off our touring schedule. I have a feeling history is going to repeat itself and you’ll come up short as you have in the past in one-on-one competition. Thank you for the history lesson Mr. Draconis….the real test is at Havoc, and I intend to pass and maintain my 4.2 GPA!
Jeremy packs his bag and exits the room, making his way to the elevator to head down for some training as the scene fades to black.
