In a small terraced house nestled in the heart of Darlington, England, Stu-E Price finds himself engrossed in the flickering glow of the television screen, watching the Watchman movie. His eyes fixate on the action unfolding, but a furrow forms on his brow, indicating a sense of confusion that tugs at his thoughts. As the movie plays on, he glances down at his phone, where a stream of messages from wrestling fans has started to flood in.
Perplexed by the sudden influx of notifications, Stu-E swipes through his phone, trying to make sense of the situation. His initial intention had been to exchange light-hearted banter with his friend Sean Parker, a fellow wrestler, attempting to lift his spirits and try and help him get his head back in the game. However, something has gone awry, and it appears that his tweets have unintentionally offended some people.
Feeling a mix of concern and bewilderment, Stu-E decides to call upon his ever-resourceful daughter, Laney, for assistance. He calls her downstairs, seeking her wisdom and understanding in navigating the intricacies of social media.
Laney enters the room, her youthful energy and tech-savviness a stark contrast to Stu-E's current befuddled state. She takes a seat next to her father, gently guiding him through the nuances of Twitter and the potential pitfalls of humour in the digital realm.
"Daddy, what’s going on?" she innocently asks, "Well, I was just trying to cheer Sean up with some banter on Twitter. But now I'm getting all these messages, and I don't understand what happened."
Laney rolls her eyes at her Dad, playfully, "Let me take a look, maybe they took your tweets seriously." Stu-E raises an eyebrow, he doesn’t grasp how people would think that way. "What do you mean? Sean’s a friend, friends take the mick out of people when they’re going through a hard time. It’s the British way!"
Laney smiles, "Not everyone is British, Daddy! You haven’t even used proper emojis!” Her Dad just looks confused, “There’s a proper way to use them little pictures?”
As Laney helps her father understand the nuances of social media, Stu-E begins to feel a sense of relief. He appreciates Laney's guidance and is grateful for her willingness to help him navigate this new digital landscape.
Together, they address the messages, clarifying that the tweets were meant in good humour via an apology posted on the HWA twitter feed. Stu-E learns from the experience, realizing the importance of being mindful of how his words may be interpreted by others in the vast world of social media.
As the Watchman movie continues to play in the background, Stu-E and Laney sit side by side, bonding over this newfound knowledge and the challenges of wrestling in the digital age. Their father-daughter bond grows stronger, not only through wrestling adventures but also through the journey of understanding and embracing the complexities of the modern world. Before flipping his phone away, he shares the video the Paul Simon song Father and Daughter on his profile.
The next day dawns upon Darlington with a persistent drizzle, painting the town in shades of grey and softening its edges with a gentle mist. The raindrops tap against windows and roofs, creating a soothing soundtrack for the wet morning. As Stu-E and his daughter, Laney, step outside, they are greeted by the dampness in the air, carrying a fresh scent of earth and rain.
Dressed in raincoats and carrying umbrellas, the father-daughter duo makes their way to the nearby park, where Stu-E needs to record a promo for the upcoming Havoc event. Despite the wet weather, Stu-E remains undeterred, his determination shining through as he prepares for the task ahead.
The park, typically vibrant and bustling, is now serene and tranquil, with only a few brave souls venturing out in the rain. Stu-E sets up his camera on a tripod, ensuring it is protected from the elements. Laney stands beside him, holding an umbrella over both of them, providing a small oasis of dryness amidst the rain.
As Stu-E begins his promo, his powerful voice cuts through the mist, displaying the passion and charisma that have made him a beloved figure in the wrestling world. He delivers his lines with conviction, expressing his anticipation for the upcoming match.
“Sean, I don’t know where you are, I’ve had people looking everywhere and I’ve been reaching out to your friends. Hopefully you’re looking after Michelle and not doing anything daft in your pursuit of Fallen. Fingers crossed you’re channelling all this hurt and pain, that normally you can hide much better than this, into a hell of a workout regime ready for our match.
It would be a bit of a tragedy if you came in to this less than 100% after our first match was finished in less-than-ideal circumstances, because I won’t be holding anything back. It’s not that I don’t have a deep sympathy for your predicament but I’m a professional, I can’t spend the rest of my career fighting the same guy because there’s always a reason why you weren’t fully in the game.
But like I said, hopefully you’ve been getting some training because I sincerely think that if we’ve both got our heads screwed on, this very well might be the match of the night. We could even dedicate it to Michelle, if you like.”
Laney watches her father with pride, knowing the dedication and hard work he puts into every aspect of his wrestling career. She stands by his side, unwavering in her support, protecting him from the rain, and serving as an anchor of strength amidst the wet conditions.
Despite the challenging weather, Stu-E's energy remains infectious, inspiring even the few passersby who pause to watch the impromptu promo shoot. The raindrops seem to dance around them, creating a poetic backdrop to his impassioned words.
“And now I’ve mentioned Michelle, it only seems right to bring up the other two involved in all this over-the-top crap that makes my media duties a pain in the backside! I’m fully expecting you both to show up somewhere, either outside the arena or to somehow magically have tickets to the show. And for your information I’m not saying your predictable, but I’m strongly bloody hinting at it.
If you do, just be very careful going anywhere near myself or Laney. Legion, you’ve already had the possibility of conceiving lowered the last time Laney was left with no option. You ever put her in that position again, and I’ll shorten your lifespan let alone the lifespans of any possible bastard kids you might have.
And I don’t buy your little act for one second either, you’re just as bad as Fallen. You two little shitheads are the worst double act since Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un, because you might be dangerous from time to time, when it’s all said and done the rest of the World will be laughing at you.”
As the promo recording concludes, Stu-E and Laney share a moment of camaraderie, their bond strengthened by this shared experience. The rain has left their clothes damp, but it cannot dampen their spirits. Instead, it adds a touch of resilience and determination to the day. As they make their way back home, laughter and chatter fill the air, turning the wet morning into a cherished memory.
