The sun casts a warm glow over the Memorial Middle school building as the day begins. Lexi arrives at the school entrance. She's dressed in a pair of mid blue distressed cat-scratch cropped jeggings and a white cold shoulder t-shirt. As usual, she exudes confidence while maintaining a friendly demeanor. As she makes her way inside the building, Lexi is greeted by the school's Principal and they shake hands warmly.
Principal: Welcome, Alexis! We're truly honored to have you here at our school today.
Alexis: Thank you so much. I'm really excited to be part of this. It’s not often I get to do this sort of thing!
The Principal leads Alexis through the bustling hallways, students whispering excitedly as they catch sight of her, some double-taking as they recognise her. They arrive at a classroom where Lexi is introduced to the teacher. On the screen in the classroom is a chrome cast showing different images of Alexis from her time as a rookie wrestler to being in college to where she is now.
Teacher: Class, we have a very special guest today. This is Alexis Rose, a professional wrestler with HWA. She's here to share her journey, talk about how important your education is and also maybe answer any questions you might have. The floor is yours, Miss Rose.
Alexis steps in front of the classroom full of eager-looking kids. She leans casually back on the teacher’s desk at the front of the classroom as she takes a deep breath and begins her address.
Alexis: Hey kids, how you doing? Today? We all good?
The students nod in unison, some also verbalizing their answers as well.
Alexis: Good, glad to hear it! Now, I’m guessing you guys are wrestling fans?
The pupils in the class all whoop and cheer. Lexi smiles.
Alexis: So, I’ve been wrestling for a while now and it’s been an incredible journey for me, but I always knew that education was just as important. I wanted to show that you can chase your dreams while still valuing your education.
One of the students, a young girl with brown hair pulled back into a ponytail, raises her hand.
Student 1: Did you go to college?
Alexis: I did! I went to college and earned my degree before I moved on and pursued my wrestling career. It was tough, but it was worth it. Education can open so many doors and equips you with valuable skills that you might think aren’t worth now but trust me, years from now, you’ll realize just how beneficial it is.
Lexi turns and points to the screen behind her, to images of herself both in the wrestling ring and studying at college.
Alexis: This is me in the ring, and this is me hitting the books. Balance and hard work are key in all aspects of life.
Another student, a boy this time, his face littered with freckles and his mousy blonde hair laced with product.
Student 2: What's the best part of wrestling?
Lexi sucks in through her teeth and smirks.
Alexis: That’s a good question! There are so many amazing things I’ve learned from my life in professional wrestling, lessons that I probably wouldn’t have learned at school and lessons I learned in school that I was able to transition into the ring. But, for me personally, it’s the adrenaline of performing in front of a crowd, the challenge of competition, and the art of storytelling in the ring. But what truly fulfills me is knowing I can use my platform to inspire others, like I'm doing here today.
Lexi points to more images; one is of her in her college robes at her graduation and the other is her holding the APEX Women’s World Championship belt.
Alexis: Remember, your dreams are valid. Whether you aspire to be a wrestler, a scientist, an entrepreneur—education will guide you. Embrace learning, stay focused, and keep pushing forward.
Lexi surveys the class, connecting with each student.
Alexis: Now, anymore questions? Anything about wrestling, education, or achieving your goals?
Hands shoot up, and the classroom comes alive with enthusiasm as Alexis engages in an interactive Q&A session, sharing her insights and encouraging the students.
Student 3: Is Matt Miller as cute in real life as he is on TV?
Lexi chuckles warmly.
Alexis: Well, Matt Miller is a great guy, and, yes, he’s definitely handsome both on and off the screen.
Student 4: Does it hurt when you get slammed on the mat?
Alexis smiles, considering the question.
Alexis: Wrestling can be physically demanding, and yes, sometimes it can be painful. But we're trained to take care of our bodies. Whilst we’re in the ring to hurt our opponents, there are steps we take to make sure we can limit how painful the moves are. But, just like any sport, it requires dedication, training, and the right mindset.
Student 5: How did you get into wrestling if you went to college and got your degree? Why didn’t you become a teacher?
Lexi’s expression becomes thoughtful. She pauses for a moment, reflecting on how to word her answer. She wasn’t exactly going to tell a class full of middle school kids she went on an emotional downward spiral after the death of her brother and threw herself into the first physical activity she could find that gave her any sort of catharsis.
Alexis: That's a great question. I actually did go to college and get my degree in child education, but life has a way of taking unexpected turns. I tried out wrestling as an after-school activity and discovered a natural affinity for it. Sometimes, opportunities arise that you never anticipated. While I chose a different path than teaching, having a college degree is like having a safety net. It's always there as something to fall back on, no matter where your journey takes you.
Lexi offers a sincere smile, hoping her response resonated with the students.
Alexis: Remember, life is a journey filled with twists and turns. Embrace your passions, work hard, and always keep learning. Your education will be your constant companion, guiding you through whatever path you choose.
The students nod, absorbing Lexi’s words and the insights she's shared as she continues fielding more questions, providing thoughtful responses, and inspiring the students with her experiences and advice as the scene fades to black.
