What if there was a way they could help Hans and Vanessa, but maintain their integrity of the roles and duty of employer? She had a plan that would do just that. It was definitely a backdoor approach, but they weren’t the only ones who she had heard wanted to help. This would certainly test the courage of their convictions. Wisdom looked at the time, she was expected downstairs for a training session with 10 new female recruits to the training academy. Alexis and Sarah were joining her to run them through basic training. On this first day of training, they found out who really had the will to see it through and who had delusions of grandeur about the business and left vomiting and or in unspeakable pain never to be seen again. As luck would have it, she had the right people, in the right place, at the right time.
She changed and went downstairs some 10 minutes later to find Sarah and Alexis in the ring before the “troops” that they had organized in two rows of 5. There was military like poise to them as Wisdom approached. She was a goddess, the queen of wrestling herself, she radiated power and elegance and her mane of beautiful blonde hair bounced as she took the steps into the ring. She nodded to Sarah and Alexis as she stepped in front of the recruits looking them over in intimidating silence. They knew she was measuring them from head to toe, wondering who she might want to dismiss right of the bat, whose clothes didn’t she like, whose hair, who was too small, who was too big, who was too eager, who was too shy. She looked them up and down, and her stare was downright menacing.
(Wisdom): Good afternoon ladies. You’re here because you think you want to be a professional wrestler. Some of you may see yourselves here competing in our ring at some point against Alexis and Sarah here. Some of you want to take advantage of our advanced training facility and perhaps go elsewhere. Some of you have been watching GLOW and may just want what you think is easy money. Whatever your reasons are, I promise you one thing….either way, you will find the answers you seek in this ring.
Alexis and Sarah step back up at her side.
(Wisdom): You’ve already met Alexis Rose and Sarah Callahan. They are not your trainers, but you can think of them as recruiters or talent scouts. Today, they are going to run you through a series of basic skills and exercises and will determine whether or not you are suited to begin work with our esteemed trainers.
Wisdom turns to her right, looking at Sarah who steps up, a serious look on her face.
(Sarah): Okay listen up ladies, first up…its important for you to know what you’re standing in right now. Why? Because this is your going to be your second home, and just like you’re the homes you live in and you get up in the middle of the night to get some water or go the bathroom…you should know your way around without the need to lights on. What do we call this?
Sarah points to one of the recruits with her hand raised, and nods in acknowledgement.
(Recruit): Ummm, ring awareness.
(Sarah): That’s right! If you don’t know where the hell you are and what you’re dealing with, you’re going to get yourself hurt, and you’re going to put others at risk too.
Sarah looks over at Alexis which is her queue to jump in.
(Alexis): You’re standing in a 14 x 14 ring and in a few minutes the first activity we’re going to do is run the ropes. This is a stress test of your balance, your positioning, your speed, and your cardio and pulmonary capability. Look around you, there are four rings on this floor, like I said…this is 14 x 14 and as you progress, you’ll go from here to the 16 x 16 ring, to the 18 x 18 ring, and finally the 20 x 20 ring that you see us in on Havoc and ppv’s.
(Sarah): You might not think a few feet at a time make a difference, but this is where that math in high school you never thought you’d use comes into play. The speed plus distance you travel in this ring is associated with two things…time and energy. Naturally it’s going to take you longer to run from 14 feet to 20 feet.
(Alexis): Why is that important?
She looks over the women and points to another with her arm up.
(Recruit): Because you have to be in a certain spot at a certain for the camera?
(Alexis): No! This isn’t a Broadway show with markers on the floor so people know where to stand. Let us give you and example.
Alexis backs away from Sarah and goes to lay on the mat. Sarah hits the rope and as she comes back, Alexis springs up into a lunging clothesline sending her to the canvas. Sarah gets back to her feet and they retake their positions.
(Alexis): If you’re anywhere in this ring, you should know by looking at your opponent how fast there are going and how long it’s going to take them to get to you. It’s called “timing.” Timing is everything in this ring. Timing is what allows you to take in those extra breaths before you get more knocked out of you.
(Sarah): That’s right, and if you’re face down and can’t see your opponent, this is where that “ring awareness” comes in. If Alexis couldn’t see me, she should still be able to have some idea of how close I was to her. Think of it like a Los Angeles, earthquake, you can tell from the vibration how close it is to you. If I’m coming at her she should feel how close I am, and still be able to calculate a response is she has the physical be that a counter attach like she just did, or if she’s too hurt…bracing for impact.
(Alexis): This ring is not a mattress. This is a steel frame with 2 inch thick wood flex beams that go the full length of this ring. There’s foam padding 1.5” to 2” thick, and heavy duty canvas pulled and tied in place. It hurts! You will bruise, and you will bleed.
(Sarah): These ring ropes are not ropes. Underneath this specialized tape are steel cables. They hurt too. I’m just gonna keep it real with you right now…everything you do in this ring today, and for the foreseeable future is going to hurt.
Wisdom steps forward again.
(Wisdom): Since you’re learning terminology today, let me build on what Alexis and Sarah have just touched on in regard to pain. There isn’t a single one of you here who is in “ring shape.” If you think you are step up and I’ll take you one myself right here and now.
Wisdom pauses looking over the women to see if there are any takes, and not a single one moves. She continues her stare for emphasis before continuing.
(Wisdom): Your bodies are not yet conditioned for this ring. That is why they are trying to familiarize you with it before you get started. Too many people come through these doors overconfident in themselves. I don’t care what background you come from. I don’t care what sport you’ve played your whole life…there is nothing that compares to professional wrestling. Professional wrestling is an amalgamation of every other sport combined. We don’t just run up and down a court or field like Basketball, Soccer and Football. We don’t get hit and have breaks in between like MMA or Boxing. Our bodies are pushed far beyond those restraints, but in order to do that you have to condition yourself to receive that punishment. Now…Alexis and Sarah are going to drill a few more things about the ring and the ring environment into your heads before you start to make some moves in here. Take a quick break, go to the bathroom, get some water if you’re thirsty but don’t drink too much or your might regret it. See you in five, dismissed!
The recruits exit the ring, some looking pumped up, others terrified, some indifferent. Wisdom turns to Alexis and Sarah when her phones rings. She pulls it from her pocket putting her finger up to them, excusing herself, but standing close enough to them where they can still hear her.
(Wisdom): …..She did what? No, I don’t believe it, of course not……but what do you expect us to do here, our hands are tied. I know it’s illegal but it’s outside our jurisdiction, you know that. Unless you have some police or detectives to look into the letter of the law and find some justice we’re doing the best we can here…………well I’m not a cop so I don’t know…………I think the police have better things to worry about obviously, unfortunately this is low priority for them…………………yes everybody knows who Gloria Allred is, she’s a goddamn ambulance chasing vulture………………………I don’t know Terry, tell them the same thing we’ve been telling them, that we have no comment on external affairs but have the best interest of all of our employes at hand and are managing our own internal affairs……………right…………..okay, thanks. Bye!
Wisdom turns around to find Sarah and Alexis staring at her…..as she intended.
(Wisdom): I’m sorry you had to hear that. Listen, I know this Erica and Hans situation has a lot of you uncomfortable. Unfortunately, there’s not a lot we can do about things outside HWA…that’s for the authorities to deal with but I want to assure you that Butch and I are doing our best to maintain peace and order here. You two have this covered here, you’re doing a great job with the gals, you know what to do….keep it up. I’m going to go try and put out some media fires from this mess.
Wisdom pats each of them on the shoulder as she exits the ring and smiles to herself. Back inside Alexis and Sarah look at one another.
(Sarah): Fuking bitch, she’s going to take this whole company down with her bullshit, we won’t make it a damn year.
(Alexis): Maybe I can ask Brooke to look into this. Unofficially of course, just see what she can see about that home invasion and this clinic semen stealing craziness.
Sarah is nodding in agreement.
(Sarah): I’m going to talk to my mom, I don’t think either incident is within her precinct’s district but she’s got friends all over and put in a few calls. At the very least we might see what she’s getting charged with, or if she’s getting charged. If we can get that bitch behind bars for a while, this shitstorm might just blow over.
(Alexis): Hold on, here they come, let’s finish this after.
Sarah nods as the recruits come back in the ring and take their places. Alexis and Sarah split them into two groups each taking five and sending them to the apron on opposite sides of the ring. They go over how to enter and exit the ring, safe footing on the apron, and a lot of true basics of the ring before they finally get to their first exercise of running the ropes as the scene fades to black.
