I disagree. Like co long said, please don't kill me with what I will say next is not what you want to hear.
Personally, I loved the series. It was probably my second favorite series of the year. However, angelish has a good point: while the series is interesting, TVB is TRYING to make it interesting. I noticed that many parts were exaggereated, but luckily they still kept the suspense. I was very surprised sometimes. The best parts of the series is the fight between Kwong Yeung (Joe Ma) and Jack (Damien Lau).
I think I had too high hopes/expectations for Idy's character/acting that made me not like to too much. Yes, you could say that because she was out of the showbiz for 14 years that we should give her a break on her acting, but there are also other returning veterans that do very well with their come back series (no offense). One of the worst things about her acting is the her hoarse voice. I don't want to be mean, but I couldn't stand it in the beginning. Towards the end, it gets better because I get more use to it. Regarding her character, I think the thing about her "no kiss, no love scenes, etc" really affected the my view towards the character. I seriously did not really know when their relationship started. In one scene I even asked myself, "Oh so are they together already?" It's just weird how every time they talk they are so distant and not close to each other. It just seems like they are friends.
Angelish, I have never thought of viewing Idy's character in a different way, but I think it makes me feel better to think that even an ordinary person has extraordinary qualities. She was very simple-minded and kind-hearted. It's just that those qualities don't fascinate me as much.
Also, I kind of noticed that Idy's character was not neccessary to the series other than being Damien's lover. The same goes for Fala Chen who played Joe's wife.
