If this is your first time attending a World Tournament, please see the list below for helpful information you may want to consider (this list is not in order of importance):
•The 2014 World Tournament Host (Buffalo, NY) will provide Welcome Packets to all Registrants when you arrive. Your packet will include a patch for attending as well as area information, coupons, etc. (They do not need to see your NHPA card to pick up your packet.)
•Your Registration Fee includes all scorekeeping fees. No need to pay scorekeepers during the World Tournament.
•The Pitching Schedule will be posted on the NHPA website by June 2, 2014. For those requesting the schedule be mailed, this will also be completed the first week of June, 2014.
•In order to qualify for the World Tournament, Natstats files must substantiate that you have pitched a minimum of four (4) sanctioned events in the preceding twelve (12) months, at your divisions pitching distance, prior to May 15, 2014. Only one (1) event is required for Juniors and Cadets.
•Sunday, July 20, 2014, will include:
(1) the Convention beginning in the morning. This is free for everyone to attend; however only appointed charter delegates may actually speak at the convention. There will be voting on By-Law changes as well as new NHPA officers;
(2) a church service will be available for those who would like to attend; and
(3) the Hall of Fame Banquet will be held the afternoon of July 20, 2014.
You may call Dick Hansen at 262-835-9108 to sign up for the Banquet. There will also be a registration form available with the pitching schedule.
It is $30 per person to attend the Banquet. You may order your tickets in advance and pay when you arrive at the Event Center. All Banquet tickets will be handled by the National Horseshoe Pitching Foundation.
•The NHPA will be teaching individuals wanting to learn how to keep score and how to be a judge for the World Tournament. These classes are free. After training, Scorekeepers will earn $15 per shift and will be keeping score for two courts at once on a provided laptop. Judges will also earn $15 per shift.
•THE OFFICIAL PLAYING RULES, GUIDELINES, AND SPECIFICATIONS FOR THE SPORT OF HORSESHOE PITCHING (RGS Book) indicates: Section C – Dress Code: All contestants competing in a World Tournament shall have, as a minimum, their last name and State or Country abbreviation professionally lettered (minimum one inch lettering) on the back of their shirts. Said shirts cannot be sleeveless. No cut-offs are permitted and closed-toe shoes must be worn. … Contestants that do not comply may not be allowed to participate in the event.
•You must have your NHPA card with you when checking in to pitch. You need to be at the Event Center at least one (1) hour prior to the time you are scheduled to pitch. For example, if you are scheduled to pitch at 8:00 a.m., you will need to be at the courts at the very latest 7:00 a.m. or at the earliest 6:30 a.m. After checking in, you will be held in an area where class photos will be taken; your shirt, horseshoes and the shoes on your feet will be checked at this time as well. You may practice after your class is checked in.
•You will be pitching a minimum of 3 days. So, it would be wise to bring at least 3 tournament accepted shirts with you.
•World “Warm Up” Tournament 2014 – This tournament will be held Saturday, July 12, 2014. All signups will be on site starting at 8:00 a.m. The tournament starts at 10:00 a.m. Entry fee is $25, 100% payback minus scorekeeper fees. They will accept up to 96 players. NO handicap will be used with six (6) person classes and forty (40) shoe games. They are using this format to simulate a day pitching at the World. Current Natstats will be used for seeding. Scorekeepers will be paid $10 for the shift.
The Tournament Director of the Warm Up is Rob Hagman.
