This brings much sadness for myself and the Bardstown Club as a whole, the Bardstown Club Volunteers, including all of the faithful, dedicated and loyal horseshoe pitchers all of these years.
We have people that drive to Bardstown just to participate in the tournament each year for the chance to win one of those Beautiful Barrel Head trophy's and that have been with us and supporting this event from the very beginning.
To all of you - THANK EACH OF YOU FOR YOUR ENCOURAGEMENT, HARD WORK AND SUPPORT to make this event the fun event that it has been since 2007.
I just received a phone call from the Ky Bourbon Festival Office explaining the decision. In the past year, The Bourbon Festival Office itself has gone through several administrative changes. The current Bourbon Festival Director has informed me today, that the Bourbon Festival Board Members have had a meeting to discuss all of the events and their futures and has decided to NOT keep the Horseshoe Event any longer. The Bourbon Festival Board via the Director has claimed that the event did not have the “Financials” to support the event any longer.
We have had a good run promoting Bardstown, all of the KY Bourbon Industry and the Ky Bourbon Festival throughout the US each year for 2 weeks when we travel to the World Horseshoe Tournaments and also promoting the Sport of Horseshoes since 2007, when the event first started.
Last Year, just for a few seconds, Bardstown, KY was even on ESPN Sports Center during the World Tournament segment showing a tourism booklet of Bardstown, KY. So we as group, did promote our hometown of Bardstown an all that Bardstown had to offer including the main Industry of Bourbon for several years.
All we ever asked for from the Festival Office were the materials to support the promoting of the City and the Bourbon Industry at the World Tournament each year.
Robert Taylor will “REMOVE” that tournament from the regular season schedule on the KHPA website. I have been invited to Louisville to meet with Mayor Greg Fisher’s Office in the near future to discuss the event coming to Louisville on a larger scale at the Ky Fair and Expo Center and/or Broadbent arena. We shall see...
Thanks to all of you that always participated and supported the event every year.
Thanks Again
Laurie
