Ecclesiastes 12:13 ¶ Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God and keep His commandments, For this is man's all.
Well, Solomon declares here that “I’m now going to conclude what I have learned from all my experimentation” “All his partying, possessions, his pursuits ect… ect…”
He’s saying “After all I’ve tried, the answer to life is not in pleasure, power, possessions, or the pursuit of knowledge even. The meaning of life lies in the fear of God.” Solomon emphatically declares this.
14 For God will bring every work into judgment, Including every secret thing, Whether good or evil.
I see Solomon as a, photographer! Yes, he takes pictures of life and lets us look at them in order to see, their all bogus. Then, on the last page of his photo album, he says, “HERES THE KEY, FEAR GOD AND KEEP HIS COMMANDMENTS.”
But, you know what Johnny? I close this photo album and still feel discouraged because the problem is, I’ve broken the commandments, and, therefore, fear judgment.
In the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus said, Matthew 5:48 "Be ye therefore perfect. But I’m not. So, although Solomon’s conclusion is correct, I haven’t followed it. I haven’t obeyed God perfectly.
But there is One greater than Solomon, the Lord Jesus, the Christ, He appears and says to you and me; “Matthew 11:28 Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 5:20 For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.”
So it is, that I say: “Lord, I have failed. But You didn’t. You took my sin upon Yourself and died in my place. Oh, what grace. And now, Lord, by Your grace, I can walk in Your ways and keep Your commandments. By Your grace, Lord, I not only fear You, but I love You.”
1John 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.
And now life has meaning-not under the sun, but rather IN the Son. I’m not saying that we don’t have to try to follow the commandments. We should try because we- Fear the Lord! Amen
