Something else to admit

When it came to being a trick or treater on Halloween, a couple of those times riding around out in the country where I treated, I was one big scaredy cat! Seems like you always expected there to be bad stuff going on out in the dark on that night. I remember seeing a coat hanging on a fence post that was blowing in the wind that spooked me as we drove up to an old farm house that "I" did not know. You know how the story goes. The parents drive you around to some of their "old friends they haven't seen in years" houses and say "oh go on up, they get a kick out of it and be glad to see you", "Be sure to tell them whose kid you are!" And you are about to wet your pants as you make the trek across the dark yards with the wind blowing the leaves around, with your eyes fixed on the little yellow porch lights beaming just hoping to heck that you first make it there without getting killed, secondly, you are not sure if you want anyone to answer the door or not and if they do whose going to be behind it? You hope you get some candy without having to venture inside. Thirdly, you spin around and fix your eyes back on the car and hope you can get back...once again...without getting killed. You get back in the car, the nerves are shot, the sweat from underneath the mask is rolling and it's too dark to look in the kitty and see if you got anything good! It's only when you get back to the house with the goods that you can brag about not being terrified or tell stories about what you thought...could or might have happened out there in the dark.
