Needle Palm with columnar trunk

Here is a picture of a needle palm (mulched heavily) that Ive grown in N.E. Central Tennessee on the North Plateau. It was a 5g potted palm planted 8 years ago. It use to burn back in the appalachian winters here but now has got much hardier frond wise. Some people call the older single trunked Needles " BULL NEEDLES" because it is out of character for the palm not to clump and whatever the term , I like this cold hardy palm . A tip for prospective growers more northerly than me , OBTAIN and PLANT the largest specimen you can possible find in the spring time and plant it then. this goes for just about any palm planting in z7a and below.
