I wanted to tell you all what happened last month regarding a hummingbird. One afternoon, my neighbor knocked on the door and had something in his hand. It was a hummingbird that had flown into the garage and had been stuck there for several hours. Evidently, he was attracted to the little red handle that allows the door to be manually lowered. Anyway, this little bird was dehydrated and the neighbor (who has seen my backyard garden) knew I had a feeder so we went out back and put the little bird on the feeder. He just sat on the perch and didn't drink. Then, it started raining so my wife and I took both the wet bird inside along with the feeder. Again, he just sat there. I decided to hold him in my hands and force him to drink. I put his beak into the sugar and water mixture and saw the bird's little tongue start to drink the liquid. After a few minutes, he gained some energy and tried to fly towards the window. By this time, it quit raining and we took the bird outside. He happily flew off and seemed fine. I placed the feeder back outside. I'm sure he was fine. Here are some pics of the experience.
