Thanks, Bill! The weather has been nice here. We've had regular rainfalls with some heat and everything is nice and green. Your plants should explode in growth the next couple weeks.
I tried to grow an ice cream banana in the past, but it kept getting taller and taller. I couldn't lift the thing in and out of the crawl space so I finally gave up after a couple years. I also heard the fruit is awesome. I may give it a try again in the future.
To answer your question about windmills...There's no way to tell what gender you have until it flowers, unfortunately. If they are six feet, they may bloom next year! Last year only one of my windmills bloomed for the first time, and I found out it was a male. This year, my other windmill flowered, and thankfully it is a female. So, I'll be getting seeds this year and for years to come!
If you want any cold hardy Arkansas seeds, let me know.
Your basjoo bed will be huge in no time. Starting with that many plants and at that size, you'll have a grove at the end of the season. Next year they will give you huge leaves and produce a ton of pups! Take some before and after shots for us. You'll be amazed by their growth rates.
