I agree. Waggies are so much better than fortunei. I love their stiff leaves and beautiful form. They sure can handle wind a lot better, that's for sure. I would definitely like to see a pic of the parent waggies. In my climate, I've found that both palms perform nicely. Of course, the windmills like a little afternoon shade to look their best, but with regular waterings, they look awesome in full sun too. They sure can put on some growth. Mine have made 1.5 to 2 feet of trunk both last year and this year. They are about 9 feet in overall height now.
Princeps are another cool palm. I started some from Rudd's seeds back in 2007 so I have a few one gallon plants. In fact, I decided to try them directly in the ground this year. I have 3 of these one gallon princeps planted in the garden and a few smaller ones in pots. We'll see how they do this winter.
Feather leaf palms are indeed very neat looking and give a more tropical feel. My butia is growing great in my zone. It has handled 12*F with just some minor protection (floodlights).
Let's hope for a mild winter! Thanks for stopping by and posting.
Cheers,
Austin
