I believe they are going for almost double what Block did, so the trophy truck record may be broken.

: Merry Christmas to you and your family too! I
: hope you're feeling better these days. Are
: you? I've been concerned about your well
: being for years, just hoping the pain is
: manageable and even gone completely.
:
: I haven't seen Ray Baumann's jump, was it a
: flat ground landing? Every time I think of a
: flat ground landing in a car, my spine hurts
: with a certain Knievellian twinge.
:
: I wish you could have tried a trophy truck
: jump. That must be the bee's knees, to
: borrow an old phrase.
:
: It's hard to imagine doing all the crashes
: you've done in your career, what a brutal
: way to make a living. Did you play any
: football? What a thrill it must have been to
: fly that high and far through the air,
: spiraling out of control, not knowing how
: you were going to land exactly, seeing
: Earth-sky-Earth-sky and then WHAM! Jumping
: is exciting enough when you pretty much know
: how and where you're going to land (and ride
: out of it), but knowing you're eating it big
: time must add another level of excitement.
:
: Wow, I'm proud of your son for joining the
: Air Force! It's a great thing. Some people
: out there will advise him to blend in with
: the woodwork, volunteer for nothing. My
: advice to him is to strive to be his best,
: to volunteer for extra things that will be
: good to do for the world, keep the creases
: on his uniform sharp and his shoes highly
: polished. That kind of thing is what helped
: me earn Airman of the Year and get promoted
: below the zone. That's just the kind of
: advice my Dad gave to me.
:
: I'm glad he's out there seeing the world and
: serving the country. The U.S. Air Force is a
: great organization.
:
: My Dad was a fighter pilot who flew two
: combat tours in Viet Nam. Tomorrow, another
: fighter pilot is going to visit my Dad. His
: name is Al Rose. He was a prisoner of war in
: Viet Nam. When I was a teenager, I wore a
: POW-MIA bracelet that bore his name engraved
: in red, and so did my entire family. I hope
: to go over to Mom and Dad's house and hear
: his story, but he won't be there very long,
: and for all I know he might not even want to
: talk about it.
:
: As for Travis, I'm not so convinced that he
: will jump without a crash, but there's
: little doubt that he will entertain! Let's
: just hope he doesn't try to beat that trophy
: truck's distance, he might break his neck
: trying that!

: Lol, that's why I love you Bro - you are a
: slave to the facts and it was your personal
: movement that changed bike jumping forever -
: - - for the better. Most of my post is done
: tongue in cheek but your points are
: recognized and noted.
:
: I will confess that I am so stoked to see
: where jumping is going period. I've jumped
: hundreds of crash jumps and probably twice
: that many ramp to ramp. It is just
: incredible to see how big the ramps and
: landings are. I would have loved to try a
: trophy truck jump!
:
: Merry Christmas Rog! My son Christopher
: joined the Air Force and is deployed in
: Osan, Korea. He loved hearing that you were
: an Airman yourself. I hope you and your
: Family have a great Christmas holiday!
:
: Same to everyone else here on the board!
:
: Prayers to Travis, he'll be great on New
: Years - God Speed!

: Obviously, it appears that jumping an
: off-road
: truck, which has great long-travel
: suspension (probably 36" of wheel
: travel), would be a far better choice than a
: rally car for distance jumping. That's why I
: don't think the two belong in the same
: category. To me, a rally car can't seriously
: compete with such an off-road whoop-monster
: as that truck.
:
: When it comes to all-out distance jumping,
: though, I always say, "Distance is a
: numbers game. Pick the best tool for the
: job. See what kind of numbers it will
: produce."
:
: It's kind of like jumping Hardly Ablesons,
: in that they aren't what one would call
: ideal for the job. If somebody wants to jump
: Hardly Ablesons, their numbers will lag.
:
: Pastrana is sponsored by rally car-related
: companies, and he's going for a rally
: car-related jump record, and the producers
: of the show are probably going to stress the
: words "world record" a lot more
: than "rally car world record." I
: wish promoters and producers would use due
: diligence in promoting and producing work
: that accurately reflects the claims.

: Brian who?... just kidding... Crashing was
: barely good to me
:
: I only mentioned Johnny Greaves jump because
: it was an obvious poach on behalf of
: Monster. There are endless catagories for
: jumping but keep in mind that Travis isn't
: jumping a street car by any stretch of the
: imagination. The longest distance jump ever
: driven away from was by Ray Baumann from
: Austrailia. He jumped 241 feet ramp to
: ground. Ken Block jumped 171 feet to ground
: also. What made his a rcord? Dunno - maybe
: because they felt like calling it a record
: when it wasn't...

: Good point. It's always better to ride out
: of
: it. I mean, that's the point of jumping: to
: avoid crashing. It requires more skill to
: jump an incredible distance without crashing
: than it does to try and fail. I mean,
: anybody can go in unprepared and crash.
:
: Not to take anything away from thrill show
: jumpers like Brian Carson, who do incredible
: work that is entertaining and exciting. No
: doubt, that takes the right setup and a lot
: of preparation.
:
: What I'm all about, though, is jumping to
: make it without crashing. In the ramp to
: ramp world, a crash is a failure.

: There are also different types -- ramp to
: ramp, and ramp to pile of junk cars.
