MOTTVILLE,MI, SUNDAY,OCTOBER 18,2009 It was a clean sweep for Indiana in the 24th Annual Indiana-Michigan Challenge Cup sponsored by Goshen Collisoon Center at the Mottville Speedway! Al Maurer won the 20 lap Street Stock feature, Mike Zehr the 15 lap Kart feature, Kevin Grubb the 25 lap Mini Stock feature and Dave Logan the 25 lap Mini Thunder Car feature. Maurer picked up any easy $125 in winning the Street Stock feature over Rick Reed and Dave Logan. Maurer also won the heat. No Karts were expected but when 3 showed up we ran them and Zehr won the feature over Mark Pebler and Marshall Pebler. Zehr also the heat. Kevin Grubb picked up $150 in winning the Mini Stock feature! Jim Newman blew his engine Saturday night but borrowed the Ben McCullom car and gave Grubb a strong run for the money the entire 25 laps! George Flowers was 3rd followed by young Haden Horvath, Joey Ellers and Patrick Knight. Heat wins went to Flowers and Newman. A very unfortunate event took place at the start of the Mini Thunder Car feature. It was discovered that Patrick McNamara and Aaron Murphy had an offset rim on the right front which is not legal for MTC. 3 laps had been run when this was discovered. Both drivers were given the option to change the rim while we waited but they stated they did not have a legal rim to replace the illegal one. So the feature continued without them and DAve Logan, who came to the Mottville Speedway for the first time in 2 years held off Nick Emmans for the win and $100! Ryan Stauffer was 3rd, Jayson Anderson 4th, and Steven Schmidt 5th. Heats wins went to Mcnamara and Logan. Camerson Mcnamara and Tom Hellinga were on hand but McNamara had mechanical woes all afternoon and Hellinga crashed in the 2nd heat. The 2 cars which were dqed were given their pit pass money back and their points. All of the track officals express their deep regret this was not caught earier! But to ignore it after discovering it would have been totally wrong. Two nights of racing left at Mottville in 2009! Saturday, October 24 and Saturday, October 31 the gates will open at 3pm with racing at 4pm. Sunday, same times, for rain date. We will be running Street Stocks (on Hoosier 790's), Mini Stocks and Mini Thunder Cars. We intend to pay at least $100 to the Street Stock feature winner even if only one Street Stock shows up! Street Stocks running both the heat and feature will receive at least $50! We want to express our sincere appreciation to all the drivers and fans who attended the 24th Annual Indiana-Michigan Challenge Cup and to Goshen Collision Center and the Eldridge family, who donated trophies.
