I am constantly amazed by the faith people put in CCTV despite the lack of any evidence that it makes any positive difference to crime. I think it all stems from the early trials where criminals did move on to different areas to avoid cameras. But now that there are cameras everywhere they've ceased to have any effect. It has also been pointed out that as the number of cameras goes up, the likelihood that someone is monitoring them when a crime occurs goes down and the chance of misuse goes up....
