I am from Germany. So far, still a country with more freedom than in GB it seems.
I just read some articles about the current development in GB concerning surveillance via video cameras. Paying private people for "detecting crimes" would be a nightmare. This would lead to informers faster than you could say "Orwell".
Bad luck, the EU plans similar things - see link below to read something about "automatic population scanning" (unfortunately, I only found an article in german):

I hope some people will have enough brain in the EU to prevent this.
