I have been looking for one of these machines for along time and finally got one off ebay. These small threshers came into being after the flail. The bundles were fed into the front of the machine and the straw came out the back with the grain. The straw was raked off and the chaff and grain was either picked up with a shovel and tossed into the air to let the wind separate the chaff from the grain, or the chaff/grain mixture was shoveled into a fanning mill to be cleaned. These machines date from the mid 1800's.
