Posted by Langley Austin on September 18, 2007, 12:46 am Matt and his crew talked about leader Ross Furr and second place running Alex Yontz wrecking, but of course this was before it happened and just like he and crew chief Bill Lett talked about, it happened, the two leaders got together. Yontz got to the inside of Furr and the two made contact sending Furr spinning, while UARA officials made the decision to put Yontz to the tail of the field ... it opened the door for Matt D. and that's all he needed. DiBenedetto would have likely been involved in the incident with Furr and Yontz had he and his crew chief not decided to lay back and let the events unfold before pushing their car to the end, a decision that put DiBenedetto in victory lane. Furr came back to finish second despite bouncing his car hard off the outside wall on the final restart trying to catch up to DiBenedetto, who got an incredible restart. Pole sitter, Mark Setzer finished third ahead of Yontz with 13 year-old phenom, Darrell Wallace, Jr. finishing fifth in only his second UARA start. Daniel Pope II finished sixth ahead of Austin Dillon, the grandson of Richard Childress, car owner of NASCAR Nextel Cup Series drivers Kevin Harvick, Jeff Burton and Sunday's race winner, Clint Bowyer. Dillon has been terrorizing the dirt tracks of the southeast first taking a big win at Lowes Dirt Track in a Crate Late Model and then scoring wins at 311 Speedway and Volunteer Speedway in a Super Late Model car, this was his first race behind the wheel of an asphalt Late Model Stock Car and he was running a car owned by Alex Yontz' team. Mikey Kile, Lucas Ransone and Jake Crum rounded out the top ten. Todd Goble had a great run in his first start teamed up with TAMCO Motorsports of Wytheville, VA. Goble qualified sixth and then ran around the top ten before encountering electrical issues and finishing 15th.

Callaway, VA ~ Matt DiBenedetto didn't have the fastest car, he wasn't real close to the leaders, he wasn't going to win the UARA-STARS first visit to Franklin County Speedway, but incredibly he did.
