12. Wayne Ramsey: Was fast in every practice and just drove the car too hard in qualifying. If he can advance from the heat race he has a car to run up front.
11. Jimmy Mullins: Said he had too much air pressure during qualifying and the car was bad loose. He will have to start a heat also, but if he can advance he is one of the few drivers that can actually make a car drive better with just him being behind the wheel.
10. Donnie Apple: First race of the year in a brand new car. No heat race for him and his experience will pay off. He's a previous winner and knows how to take care of his car.
9. Alex Yountz: Alex is the defending Bailey's 300 champion and has brought a great piece with him again this year. The car already has wins this year at Ace and Bristol.
8. Matt McCall: The "Pig Rig" has been one of the fastest cars all week. Just missed out on the top 22 but should advance and be strong in the race. And on top of that it's just a awesome looking car.
7. Brad Brinkley: Brad has always qualified well for this race but always seems to have something happen after the green flag. His luck has to change sometime, this year is as good as any.
6. Tommy Lemons Jr.: Tommy has been flying slightly under the radar this year but has had a good consistant car all season. He really ripped one off in qualifying and will start 5th. If he can stay around till the end he should be someone to watch.
5. Jamey Caudill: Getting into the meat now. Jamey runs good anytime he unloads his car. This week is no exception he knows what to do at Martinsville.
4. Frank Deiny Jr.: Frank has more laps at this track than almost every driver put together. Martinsville is his "playground" so to speak, and it will show Sunday.
3. Davin Scites: Got the pole at Martinsville but it definatly didn't come out of the blue. His car has been consistant and smooth since the test last week. If he can stay in the top 7 all day he will be sitting pretty with 50 to go.
2. Matt DiBenedetto: He's just a kid. He's only 16. This is his first year in a LMSC. It doesn't matter. Matt has been smooth as silk since he turned his first laps at Martinsville last week. He never overdrives the car and put it in the top ten his first time there. He told me today that the car has been absolutely "neutral" since he's been there. That is a good car. Many eyes will be opened Sunday.
1. Dennis Setzer: This pick wasn't easy. It was close between him and Matt. Anytime the Romeo Guest car pulls into a track it's kinda like when Mark Martin raced the Busch Series. All the other drivers just look around and say " Oh no". Dennis is no doubt one of the best short track racers that ever lived and he showed it in practice and qualifying timing in at the 7th position. With his expertise and knack for taking care of equipment, I look for him to be the car up front when the checkered flag waves.
