Posted by Langley Austin on October 18, 2007, 7:48 pm Wytheville, VA ~ The "Big One" at Old Dominion Speedway in Manassas, VA leads the charge of the races this weekend, but several other tracks are still heating up the track with some good old fashioned, Late Model Stock Car racing action. The UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Car touring series makes it's next to last start this weekend while making it's second trip of the season to Concord Motorsport Park in Concord, NC. The first trip this season to Concord for the UARA-STARS saw young rookie, Matt DiBenedetto dominate the 150-lap race and take home his first win in only his second built engine, Late Model race. DiBenedetto has since won a second UARA race this season just a few weeks ago at Franklin County Speedway as well as finishing fourth in the Bailey's 300 at Martinsville Speedway, the biggest Late Model Stock Car race in the country. DiBenedetto has to be excited heading back to the track where he got his first win. The "Big One" at Old Dominion Speedway(ODS) is a $10,000 to win feature for Late Model Stock Cars best drivers on the east coast. Many of the division's biggest names are expected to compete at ODS including Frank Deiny, Jr. and 2006 NASCAR Weekly Racing Series National Champion, Philip Morris along with all the speedway's regulars and other outside 'invaders'. Southern National Raceway Park(SNRP) in Kenly, NC will continue their "Chase for the Championship" this Saturday with twin 100-lap Late Model Stock Car features. 2006 South Boston Speedway track champion, Drew Herring won the regular season point championship at SNRP and he currently leads the "Chase for the Championship" over former SNRP champion, Jamey Caudill. At Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC they'll crank it up for one last time as the Late Model Stock Cars prepare for the 300-lapper on November 3rd. Only two Late Model Stock Car drivers have multiple wins this season at OCS with Jon Denning taking three wins and David Triplett, Jr. taking two. Several other drivers have single race victories as they race into the final two event of the season. On Saturday, October 20th they'll compete in twin 100-lap Late Model Stock Car races to prepare for the 300-lap event which will take place in two weeks. Lonesome Pine Raceway in Coeburn, VA will run it's final leg of the "Chase for the Championship" series in which they started several weeks ago after the 2007 regular season was completed. Blountville, TN driver Wayne Hale won the regular season championship and is hoping to win a second championship in this chase format. LPR will run it's final race of the season for the Late Model Stock Cars this Saturday with a 75-lap feature event. So, no matter which race you choose you are sure to see a pretty good one this weekend. We will have extensive coverage as always of the UARA-STARS Late Model Stock Car touring series race as well as coverage from the Orange County regular season finale and all the other races this weekend. Next weekend, Saturday and Sunday, October 27-28th we'll have extensive coverage of the 300-lap special event at South Boston Speedway in South Boston, VA. We'll have a large amount of coverage of this race due to the fact that it is the only Late Model Stock Car race we can find on the schedule for this particular weekend. In the coming weeks we plan to have full coverage of all the Late Model Stock Car races remaining in our region starting with the OCS 300 at Orange County Speedway in Rougemont, NC and the UARA-STARS season finale at Caraway Speedway in Asheboro, NC both of which will be held on Saturday, November 3rd. The November 10th weekend as of right now looks a little empty as no Late Model Stock Car races are on the schedule at our region tracks, but a week later we'll have six straight days(or more) of coverage from Myrtle Beach Speedway in Myrtle Beach, SC for the Myrtle Beach 400 and then we'll wrap up our Late Model Stock Car season with the Thanksgiving Classic at Southern National Speedway in Kenly, NC.
