Posted by Langley Austin on October 21, 2007, 8:29 pm Furr's grandfather, Henry built the speedway and later reconfigured it to it's current configuration and Ross Furr made it his home last night as he took the win in the 150 lap UARA-STARS feature. Furr, who has missed out on several good opportunities this season to get his first win most recently when he was spun out of the lead at Franklin County Speedway on September 15th with five laps to go, made the most of a race which was sponsored ironically by his primary sponsor, Fairborn Equipment Company. Furr held off Shane Bradford and a hard charging, Roger Lee Newton in the late stages of the race when the field was returned to action for a green, white, checkered finish, but this race was far from easy for the young driver. Furr qualified on the pole, but on the start of the race lost the lead to points leader, Mark Setzer. Furr followed in Setzer's tire tracks for much of the race and even nearly spun himself out trying to get under Setzer for the position. Furr held on and eventually moved by Setzer for the position and took the win in fitting style. Shane Bradford drove a smooth race starting fifth and steadily climbing through the field and in the end had to hold off a hard charging, Roger Lee Newton, who started twelfth and made his through the field to the third finishing position. Newton like Furr nearly crashed out around the mid-point of the race when Payne Pickles of Live Oak, Florida looked under Newton for the position and the two got together. Pickles also had a strong run, but fell back to fifth in the final rundown behind Setzer. Rounding out the top ten finishers was Lee Tissot, who picked up the Holley Performer after he qualified in 16th, BJ Mackey, Brandon Dean, Bobby Measmer and Buster Bennet. Rookie of the year point leader, Matt DiBenedetto had a struggling night, first struggling to get into the top twenty in speeds during practice then knocking down a great third place qualifying effort, but then finishing a disappointing 16th place finish after pitting many times during the 150-lap race.
