SCHEDULE SHOWS NEW DIRECTION FOR THE 4/10 MILE OVAL
Altamahaw, NC ~ The 2008 Ace Speedway schedule has just been released and shows many changes from the slate we've been used to.
Virtually non-existent is the twin lmsc feature (there is one) that has proven to be so popular in the past. Every race date is either a 75-lap or 100-lap distance. Also on the docket (and even more distressing to lmsc fans) are two weekends for tractor pulls only. Perhaps the biggest disappointment is the omission of the big money season opener that the speedway was supposed to have. It also seems odd that the season ending race will feature cars that mainly run at Bowman Gray Stadium after that type race was such a fiasco at the end of 2007.
It was so nice over the past few years to know that Ace would be there for lmsc fans EVERY FRIDAY NIGHT. There was never any worry that the track would take a weekend off because of competition from the Cup series. Without exception, everyone here at race22 felt Ace was one of the best tracks in the region because of the tough competition and the fender banging action that has become commonplace. Why has the schedule been so changed? It wasn't broke. It didn't need fixing.
I usually make it to Ace a couple of times a year and will try to do so again this year. Unfortunately the powers that be have given me (and everyone else who loves lmsc)fewer race dates to choose from. It remains to be seen if this new direction proves to be a success. The early returns from my fellow lmsc brotherhood indicate a negative response.
