Rougemont, NC ~ Round 3 of the 2008 UARA Series will come to the high banks of Orange County Speedway this Saturday night, April 26, and the action at "America's Fastest 3/8ths mile track" will be fast and furious. With 37 cars already pre-entered, and some local "hotshoes" trying the tour out, it could be that some drivers will end up more "furious" than they will be "fast".
2007 championship runner-up and last race winner at Motor Mile, B.J. Mackey, will try to go for 2 in a row at OCS. He will be met with some stiff competition with the likes of Jamey Caudill and Jamie Yelton. Yelton had a dominant car at Motor Mile, but mechanical troubles ruined his day while he was comfortably leading the field. Caudill has been on a slump of sorts, dating back to the end of last year, but after capturing the Sunoco Pole at Motor Mile and coming home with a 5th place finish, he looks to be back on track as the series heads to Orange County. The reigning champion Ross Furr, had has day go south at Motor Mile after a late race restart melee that also took out rookie, Paddy Rodenbeck, who was having his first top ten run in the series. Ross and his team shruged it off and assured everyone they would be back with a "vengence" at Orange County, so betting on this one could be hard to do.
As always with the UARA, the young guns will definately have a say so on the high banks as well. Jake Crum ruffeled a few feathers 2 weeks ago, but being the points leader 2 races in shows his determination should not be doubted. One of those feathers ruffeled by Crum was that of third place finisher, Richard Boswell. Boswell and Crum battle to the finish line for second place at Motor Mile with Crum ultimately slamming down into him coming to the finish line with Boswell confronting the young driver during post race ceremonies, this could be a rivalry in the making right here.
Melling Rookie of the race at Motor Mile Andrew Carlsen, continues to be a pleasant surprise. He has drove silky smooth and is currently sitting 10th in points. Rookie phenom Darrell Wallace Jr. has had a rough first 2 races but looks to bounce back at one of his favorite tracks. Garrett Campbell, the young rookie, who made the season opener at Concord in qualifying, but was unable to start after he crashed his car on his final qualifying circuit, made a complete recovery at Motor Mile, qualifying strong and then racing to a ninth place finish at the end of the day, this guy is another one to watch.
There are many others that could take the Strutmasters.com 150 trophy. Alex Yontz, Richard Boswell, Shuan Mangum, Roger Lee Newton, Curtis Truex Jr. and Clay Greenfield have all run well to begin the season. Or could one of the local invaders such as Ryan Rhodes or Bentley Cecil steal the show? As a matter of fact, the competition is so close in the UARA, picking a winner for Saturday is a total crapshoot. There will be some fast action and some bent sheetmetal, and Race22.com will be there to cover it all. If you don't join us live, you will surely be missing out. See ya at the races.
