Dean Fogleman put it best.
"You usually don't see somebody run in the middle to back of the pack for ten years and suddenly win at a NASCAR Weekly Series track."
But that's exactly what Fogleman did. He combined persistence with lady luck to take the 100-lapper for late model stocks last Friday night at Ace Speedway. The driver of the Joker Racing Parts Monte Carlo was the fourth of four different leaders in the race's final 20 laps. Fogleman runs the Ace crate motor in a Marlowe chassis that he got recently from the Jason York racing team." Jason and his family have helped me a bunch" stated Fogleman. "I've been painting their cars for a long time. It's been a good relationship."
Ironically it was Jason's misfortune that opened up the door for Fogleman's win. He had the lead with 20 laps to go when he was spun from the lead by second running Speedy Faucett. When Faucett was black flagged after the restart, Robert Turner took the point. However, his lead was short lived as his motor developed a miss and Fogleman took the point. Fogleman remarked that he was "worried that the caution would come out " as the race neared it's end. Happily for Fogleman, all the cautions had flown and he was able to take the black #71 to victory lane.
For the first half of the race,Fogleman ran a close second to pole sitter Faucette. His car developed a push during a long green flag run in the race's first 78 laps and he dropped back to fourth behind York, Faucette, and Turner. During the first caution laps, Fogleman cranked more brake into the car which helped the handling for the race's frantic closing stages. "After we adjusted the brakes, the lap times improved by three-tenths a lap" he concluded.
Fogleman hopes to make it two in a row as racing returns to the four-tenths mile speedplant tis Friday night. The late models will run 75 laps and you can bet Fogleman will be in the mix.
