High Point, NC ~ The UARA boys are back on the track this weekend at the famous Hickory Motor Speedway for the "Bad Boys Mowers 150". After finally getting his first win of the season two weeks ago, Jake Crum looks like the early favorite coming to Hickory solely on his performance of 2008. But many others will have their sights on him including Bristol winner Matt DiBenedetto who will be making his second UARA start of the season trying to go 2 for 2 . Local hotshoe Jamie Yelton will be tough to beat, he has many wins at Hickory and definitely knows his way around there. Alex Yontz, B.J. Mackey and Jamey Caudill will be in the thick of it with their veteran experience and the help of the great cars they have had thus far this year. Rookies Darrell Wallace Jr., Andrew Carlsen and Garrett Campbell are bringing in the rookie brigade, with Carlsen looking for great things at his home track. As always it's hard to preview, with 5 different winners in 5 races for the UARA you had better have a rabbits foot picking the winner!!!!
South Boston Speedway
Up at the track in southern Va., Wayne Ramsey and Justin Johnson are the ones to beat at SOBO this weekend as they host the "Whelen 150". Ramsey who has been one of the "top dogs" the past few years, is joined by stiff competition in 2008 in the likes of Johnson. Justin started driving for LMSC veteran Frank Deiny Jr. in 08' and the results have been instant with Johnson and Ramsey being the only repeat winners of the young season. Should be a good one this weekend, and if you can get dad to go he gets through the gate for only 5 bucks Saturday night.
Motor Mile Speedway
The fields have been stout this year at Motor mile but that hasn't stopped Philip Morris, the 2006 National Champion has took home the last 3 wins in a row. But he isn't alone at the top, Davin Scites, New to Jr. Motorsports this year, has been right there clipping at his heels and has begun a rivalry with Morris so to say. Brandon Dean, Forrest Reynolds, Tommy Lemons Jr, Michael Cherry and Chad Harris are just a breath away each race and are looking to have their moments in the sun. Motor Mile rolls off Saturday night with the "ATK 150", and as always, tickets are only $5.
Caraway Speedway
Last weekend at Caraway, Randy Benson took home his 5th win of the season and sits atop the point standings by 58 points over rookie Ryan Wilson coming into this weeks 100 lapper. The rookie Wilson broke the stranglehold that Benson has had on the track 2 weeks ago and came home with his first ever Late-Model win. Only 3 cars have started all the races this year, but 30 have started at least one so you never know who is gonna show up. Look for the car counts to grow as drivers get valuable track time in preparation for the Rusty Harpe Memorial race on July 2nd.
Concord Motorsports Park
Last week the 2007 track champion Chuck Crump finally broke through for his first win of 08'. Coming this week the Late-Models will go for 75 laps and Crump looks to bite into the points lead held by Concord veteran Kevin Love. Surprising Justin Hill sits in second and looks to keep Crump behind him and bite into Love's 22 point lead. Crump is only 30 out of first and 10 ahead of 4th place Terry Brooks Jr.
Ace Speedway
Coming up this Friday night June 13, the Adams Towing Late-Models will go for 100 laps around the beautiful 4/10 mile oval in Altamahaw N.C. Rodney Cook, who could hardly be beaten in 2007, has yet to find the winners circle at Ace this year but has knocked off many second place finishes and leads last weeks winner Speedy Faucette by 2 points in the championship standings. Scotty Warren and Robert Turner are knocking on the door in 3rd and 4th, and if Jason York and Mack Little show up as they have been, the field will be tight. Ace has had some of the smaller car counts in the area, but the racing has been some of the best around with no shortage of beatin and bangin.
Greenville-Pickens Speedway
Coleman Pressley. That pretty much all that can be said here. Coleman has been dominate everywhere he has run this year and the Race22.com Power Rankings reflect it. Whether it be Greenville Pickens or just showing up and starting at the back of the field at Hickory, the #59 JTG car has been in the front. Last week David Roberts was able to hold off Coleman from his pole starting position and take home the win. The points battle has already became a three car race with Coleman 12 up on Marty Ward and 14 ahead of Roberts. With great car counts this year, Greenville Pickens has been one of the most competitive tracks around.
Orange County Speedway
They may have only had 2 races this year, but the depth of talent in both of those was phenomenal. Justin Johnson and Terry Dease took the wins in those, but with drivers like Stacy Puryear, Peyton Sellers, Deac McCaskill, David Triplett and Ronald Hill showing up this year so far, if you get the win at Orange County in 08' you have beat some of the best in the business. This Saturday June 14th the Late-Models will take to the "Worlds Fastest 3/8s mile" for 150 exciting laps
