Posted by me on August 11, 2007, 2:49 pm The Canadian immigration department denied his refugee claim because he wasn't "gay enough" - Alvaro had no sexual partners to "prove" his orientation, even though he was a teenager throughout most of his travels. It is illegal to be gay in Nicaragua, and Alvaro faces prison time, in part because of the high profile nature of the case. This brave young man is in hiding and his only hope to stay in Canada is intervention by the Minister of Immigration Diane Finley (a Conservative). Please write to the Minister directly at: Parliament Hill
Alvaro Orozco is set to be deported from Canada. He is a 21 year old gay youth who escaped Nicaragua at age 12, and made his way on foot and alone through the U.S., landing in Canada in 2005.
