Do you know what variety it is? I would have to say it is not surprising if it Chicago Hardy or another hardy type. Phipps Conservatory in Pittsburgh had a Chicago Hardy bigger than that survive Vortex 1, but I am not sure if it is still there. It is in a courtyard though surrounded by greenhouses, so it likely did not experience the full brunt of consecutive -9F lows and a high of -1F. Brown Turkey and Celeste are supposed to be quite hardy as well. I planted a Brown Turkey this year in a totally exposed area. I will likely build a leaf cage for it.
