Here where I live all the cacti are doing great. However, this last week deer have done devastating damage to some really nice trees I planted. I have a Magnolia grandiflora x sieboldii hybrid that was stripped off bark almost in its entire circumference. I can't even bear to take pictures :-( Also, almost 50% of the branches were justt snapped off. It looks terrible. I just caged it but don't know what else I can do to help it recover.
The next shrub in the line of fire was a Prunus laurocerasus. They grow fast and are tough, so I wasn't too devastated to find out this morning deer had snapped it in half. They haven't touched my largest magnolia grandiflora in the front lawn yet, but it is my nicest tree and I'm worried about it. I won't have time tonight to build a cage but I'm swinging by home depot to buy the fencing as soon as I get out of work.
I HATE deer. :-(
