Starting in 2006, as a way of honoring softball's living legends in the Greater Dayton area, USSSA began a new tournament theme, the Spitz/USSSA "Legends of the Game."
This event has become so successful, that Columbus, Ohio is next in line to begin this new tradition on a yearly basis.
This coming July 11-12, 2009, Berliner Park in Columbus will be hosting their first-ever, Columbus "Legends of the Game" Softball Weekend.
Tournaments are planned for Men's D and Women's (C, D or E) teams on Saturday, 11 July; followed by events for Men's E and Mixed Couples teams on Sunday, 12 July. Formats are double elimination...
The inaugural class of Columbus Legends includes Gary Ogle, Rush Hatfield, Margie Miller, John Fleeman, Celia Fritz, and Jerry King.
Ceremonies honoring these living legends will take place just after noon on Saturday, 11 July, at Berliner Park.
