Not many are willing to admit but I have no shame in my game. Yesterday, I went out to Lake Travis and fished from about 1 pm till dark. I decided to launch where I had only done so one other time and previously was not the captain of the ship. Therefore, I had marked a few visuals to remind me of how to get back and began fishing. The bite started out slow and I was beginning to scramble and try to locate something consistent, looking for a hint. Finally, I was on a pretty good bite fishing sloping bluffs at secondary points with crank baits and the bite was VERY light. It was almost as if the fish were just licking the bait as it swam by rather than actually trying to eat it. All the fish were barely hooked and it was a definite test to my grace and patience. After landing the 5th keeper, I decided to start making my way back to the launch before it got dark, maybe hitting one or two spots on the way. The sun was beaming in my eyes just before sunset and my land marks were not obvious any longer. CRAP! I started to get nervous when I knew I had passed it and wasn't sure where- Mile marker 14, then 15... I stopped, called everyone in my phone that knew the lake and no answer! COME ON! So, I turned around with cell phone between my teeth, to make sure I wouldn't miss a call- Then Jason called and helped me to recall my landmarks and the ramp was in site... Thanks Jason! whooh! On my drive home, of course all my calls were returned and had to give a quick version of my "Lost at Sea, I'm an idiot" story. I grew up fishing Lake Travis since I was very young and almost weekly- but hadn't been to these parts in some time. Goes to show, no matter how much you think you know an area, TAKE YOUR G.P.S.!!!
