Congratulations to Robby and Cody for the third place win!
Big bass and big winds would be the recurring theme for the 2nd stop on
the Fishers of Men Central Texas Tournament Trail on Lake Buchanan,
Saturday February 23, 2008.
The Red Barn in Buchanan Dam, TX hosted the pre-tournament meeting
where we packed in over 120 fishermen and their families to an array of
Pizza and drinks provided by Fox Pizza and the Army Bass Anglers. Our very
own Bill Shelnutt was our guest speaker, and brought us a very solid
reminder of the three relationships we must constantly nourish. We must
take care of ourselves and like who we are, we should strive to have
grounded relationships with our friends, and foremost, we must earnestly
work on our relationship with our God. Thanks Bill.
Waking up to a brisk 40 degree Saturday Morning, the 71 teams started
to arrive at beautiful Hi-Line Lake Resort in Tow, TX. for safety check
and to launch the 2nd of five scheduled tournaments and determine the
Points Champions and regional qualifiers for the 2008 Regional and
National Championship. Not to forget big incentive money from Texas Boat
World for qualifying Triton Owners.
High winds made it difficult for many teams to effectively fish their
originally planned spots, making early adjustments and headed to calmer
coves to catch their fish, while many anglers would tough it out on
windy main lake points to either make it or break it.
Making it on this day and taking the first place spot was the team of
Bryan Cotter of Cedar Park, TX and Justin Fisher from Kyle, TX. They had
a big limit including a 5.87 kicker largemouth to lock in the scales
with 21.88 pounds. Bryan told me they caught fish on caught several nice
fish off crank baits, a few on finesse worms, but most came on Mr.
Blitz Craw Clicker Jigs with craw trailers. Including a nice 5.5lber on a
Stanley Ribbit frog, Bryan wanted to thank his sponsors, Mr. Blitz, for
their awesome Craw Clicker Jigs, Spinner baits, Toad Toter and
Fin'Acky Hooks.. Also Berkley for their Berkley Trilene 100% Fluorocarbon
line, and WORDsearch, makers of WORDsearch 8 and Bible Explorer 4, the best
Bible software made.
Not too far behind with 20.33 pounds and taking second place was the
team of Lance Wenmohs of Round Mountain, TX and Mike Clark from Meadow
Lakes, TX. They fished on the lower end of the lake in the front to
middle part of coves. They would target rocks and stick ups in 4-6 ft. of
water that was near deeper water; water temps ranged from 53-55 degrees.
Lance told me they caught all their fish on Carolina rigged or TX
rigged plastic baits (worms and creature baits)and caught three limits of
bass and never caught an "under" bass. Their five fish limit included
a 4.79 kicker bass, and moves them up to 11th place in the year to
date standing.
Taking third place for the tournament and jumping into 3rd place in the
overall standings is the Texas Outdoor Zone fishing team of Robby
Crabb from Coupland, TX, and Cody Greaney of Austin, TX. They brought a
limit of bass weighing 19.74 with the second largest bass of the
tournament at 6.82.
Cody told me they fished protected shallow water areas where the fish
were looking to lay up for the spawn. They weren't on beds just yet but
looking for a nice home. Fish were caught in 2 to 4 foot of water on
Grande Bass mutants and shallow running red Express H2O crank baits from
Academy. Cody wanted to thank Academy, Grande Bass, The Texas Outdoor
Zone, and Country Line Magazine for their continued support.
Big Bass honors went to the team of Brian Harms of Round Rock, TX. and
Jody Wood from Leander, TX with a 6.85 largemouth bass.
After the dust settled and the action was over, we have a tie in the
Points Championship Race. Moving up from second to first place was Jacky
Roberts of Georgetown, TX and Ken Wilkins from Round Rock, TX. along
with the husband-wife team of Roger and Jerral Boling of Cotton Wood
Shores, they are currently the leading Male/Female as well. The Texas
Outdoor Zone Team of Robby Crabb, and Cody Greaney are also tied for third
position with Kevin Pederzani of Round Rock, TX , and Dan Taylor of
Leander, TX.
With 3 points separating them from 3rd place and 6 points from the
leader, the Army Bass Angler Team of Randy Sitz and Chad Nelson of Harker
Heights are currently holding in 5th place.
With a respectable finish on Lake Buchanan and making a big leap up
the Youth/Adult category, and currently leading the youth/adult
category is Yung Follis of Austin, TX and Regan Vaca from Cedar Park, TX;
Great job guys.
