Anheuser-Busch: Will it continue to brew sports advertising?
By Darren Rovell
(Part of larger story)
Belgium brewer InBev has agreed to buy Anheuser-Busch for $52 billion. And the biggest question we have here at Sports Biz is, how much will this impact the business of sports? Or to some, how will this impact Super Bowl commercial watching?
This is what we know.
[BUD 66.87 0.37 (+0.56%)] spent $218,210,715 on advertising during sporting events in 2007. That made up 83.8 percent of their total TV ad spending, according to Nielsen Media Research and the SportsBusiness Journal. That $218 million topped the next biggest sports spender, Chevrolet, by $45 million.
How big of an impact does Anheuser Busch have on sports sponsorship? The only way I can affectively convey this is to run a partial list of Anheuser-Busch sponsored sporting events. Please remember, this is only at the corporate level. There are literally thousands of regional level deals.
