SPORTSMANSHIP
As an adult coed league, our league wants to promote both competitveness and sportsmanship in order to give all of our players the ability to come to the fields and have fun playing softball. We also want to provide an environment where family, fans and children can come to the fields and watch games without fear of constant vulgarity and unsportsmanlike conduct. Please join us in continuing to make our league one of the best coed leagues in the state of Pennsylvania.
Our league is governed by a League Ethics Board consisting of five (5) players or managers from around the league. To be on the ethics board, a player must have played in the league for at least five (5) seasons and have exhibited a willingness to help out with field maintenance and league function. The League Ethics Board will be chosen by the League Commissioner. The League Commissioner WILL NOT serve on the league ethics board, but will be used as a voting member ONLY if a team of one of the board members is involved in a specific incident. There will be no more than one player/manager from any team in the league at any time. The League Ethics Board will not be publicized to prevent lobbying, harassment or intimidation of any of its members. A League Ethics Board member will serve a one year term. If a member of the League Ethics Board stops playing in the league, that member will be replaced immediately on the board. Any ethics board member who is suspended from league play due to an egregious infraction will be replaced on the board.
Any team that continually exhibits unsportsmanlike behavior will first be given a warning by the league and any subsequent unsportsmanlike behavior by that team will result in permanent removal from the league. Unsportsmanlike behavior includes but is not necessarily limited to: fighting, verbal abuse or dissent toward an official or opponent, racial or ethnic slurs, inappropriate comments or behavior that may be construed as sexual harassment, profanity, obscene gestures, flagrant and violent play, taunting, trash talk, baiting, cheating, throwing or abusing equipment, destruction of field or league property, physical intimidation or abuse of an official or opponent, unauthorized leaving of a team bench area, striking or physically abusing an official, opposing coach, or player, intentionally inciting participants or spectators to violent or abusive action and using profane or unduly provocative language or action toward officials, opponents or spectators.
Any player on the roster of a team that is permanently removed from the league must petition the league for reinstatement. A player may be reinstated and play for another team in the league if said player was not involved in any of the incidents that led to their team being removed from the league. As the responsibility of the manager is to control his/her own team, managers of removed teams will not be allowed reinstatement.
Any player that throws a punch on or around the field or parking area will result in an indefinite suspension from the league.
Taunting, physical intimidation, profanity towards an opponent, league official or an umpire and destruction of property on field premises and adjoining areas (parking lots) will not be tolerated. Any of these acts will result in an immediate ejection of the offending player plus a one game suspension in league play. A second infraction will result in a one year suspension. A third infraction will result in permanent removal from the league. Infractions are NOT limited to one season.
Any comments by players intimating physical harm to an opposing player will not be tolerated. Any comment related to "targeting" or "open season" on an opposing pitcher will not be tolerated. Making a physical move towards an opponent or opponent bench area with intent or physical contact beyond normal game play will not be tolerated. Any player purposely hitting at the pitcher with the intent to injure in the judgment of the umpire will not be tolerated. A first infraction will result in an immediate ejection of the offending player(s) and a three game suspension in league play. A second infraction will result in permanent removal from the league. Infractions are NOT limited to one season.
Umpires have the right to throw a player or manager out of a game for consistent verbal abuse and/or physical confrontation. If a player(s) is ejected, the player(s) must leave the field and may not sit in the stands or anywhere within the Complex. The ejected player will serve at least a one-game suspension on the next scheduled game. Egregious infractions may stipulate a longer ejection as voted on by the League Ethics Board or at the recommendation of the District Umpire-In-Chief.
An ejection in any area ASA league or tournament will be honored by the Chester County Coed Softball League. A first ejection will result in at least a one-game suspension in our league. (see above rule for egregious infractions) A second ejection within the same year will result in at least a suspension for the current season and the next season. A third ejection within the same year will result in permanent removal from the league.
The League Ethics Board will have the sole responsibility of voting on rules pertaining to team/player behavior in the league. A majority vote will pass or revoke any rule brought before the board. The League Ethics Board will also vote on the status of any player or team that exhibits continued unsportsmanlike behavior and for egregious infractions.
