This little detail was not well known, and was ignored by most of the public announcements concerning the issue.
Another newer issue seems to be that the new VA head is following the party line, saying that the VA's funding is sufficient. I suppose if the VA is allowed to bumble along as it has in the past, that might be accurate.
What gets me is the VA claims that it is providing more and better care than it has in the past. If so, not around here. May be in areas that are politically noticeable.
In my area, which has a republican state government, some money has been spent on facilities, and not what is needed to provide for direct medical care personnel and services.
We have a fairly recently remodelled VAMC that has an emergency facility that is not staffed, and is used mainly for C&P exams by nurses during the day.
