Hello I'm James Shinn my oldest brother is Robert Joe Shinn Jr. he served on the 1167 During vietnam! I'm looking for some of his friends from the ship, I have heard many stories from that time and would love to see him find some lost friends, I think there was a man named Paul Bentley? My brother has many pictures of the USS Westchester County of him and my other brother Floyed Richard Shinn who was on the USS Shangri-La but got left in port and spent time as a deck hand on the 1167 until he could return to his ship.
My brother was painting the ship and the other person did not tie off his ropes right and my brother fell of the ship once and got hurt, he also got Elephantitis and was hospialized. I know that he was a gunner on a pom pom type gun as he has pictures, also that he would make river runs on swift boats to shuttle marines and suplies, and that he had to through grenades over the side of the ship to blow up any thing in the water becuase there were bombs on stuff that floated buy, my brother is an artist and painted the ship and its numbers and a snoopy dog on a locker in the mess hall does anyone know if it is stil there?
I know for sure that he and his friends were called Super Skates!
