In August of 1969, she took thirty of us in VMFA 334 plus our ground support equipment and two unflyable F4's from Chu Lai to Iwakuni. Went through a typhoon on the way and I was never so sick in my life. They told me a 52 degree list from side to side - I swear it was almost 90! Thirty miserable Marines while the sailors ate and slept - no one allowed up on deck for three days. Whole trip took 7 days. Lots of memories - I even have a few pictures from aboard ship on that trip if anyone is interested. Since that trip I never got seasick again - even being on some pretty rough water.
