Hello (sorry I don't know your first name),
my name is Suzan Kohlik, I live in Bali and have had a Health food Cafe here for the last nine years, where I've been selling wheat grass shots to customers since then.
I have one consistent problem and as many people have asked me for my wheatgrass trays I need to learn to rectify this: MOLD!
I'll never be as big a grower as you and I live on the other side of the globe, so I'm hoping you would feel comfortable giving me a few words of wisdom to a sister wheat grass lover.
just to give you a bit of info: The climate here is tropical, always warm, rainy season half the year, dry the other. Wheat does not usually grow here, it's a wet rice cultivation area.
I soak the berries for 12 hours, sprinkle them on top of humus soil, let them germinate uncovered on the bottom shelves of a large outdoor shelving unit. As they grow I put the trays on higher shelves for more light. there is a white plastic roof over the top of the shelves with vegetation on top and sunlight comes in from the side.
Mold has been my biggest problem, but also my grass never looks as healthy and juicy and dark green as yours or any I've seen in the US.
I am way into organic growing, so ferilizer is out of the question, but I've been wondering about other improvemnets.
I'd be incredibly grateful for any help!
looking forward to your response,
Suzan Kohlik
