Hello Yucca friends.
This year we will have a lot of flowers in our Yuccas again, totally there will be 42 rosettes with flowers, during the summer. Not like last years record which were 58 blooming rosettes. The first has opened the flowers (growing in an unheated greenhouse), and I think that the last flowers drops of sometime in late August.
Here is the list of the 11 different Yuccas, which will bloom in our garden during the summer of 2009:
729 Yucca sp. [baileyi?], Arizona, Navajo Co., 1600 m. Bought of Henk De Loose, as a seedling in 1995. Is unfortunately blooming so early, that I don't have any fresh pollen to cross-pollinated it with I have tried using some old pollen collected in 2008.1. flowerstalk.
1766 Yucca sp. [flaccida var. glaucescens]. 3 flowerstalks.
1827 Yucca "Jensen hybrid" (filamentosa garden form x glauca) 1 flowerstalk. This is the first of my own hybrids, which will be blooming in our garden.
1578 Yucca filamentosa garden form 2 flowerstalks.
388B Yucca rupicola, Texas, Kerr Co., sown 1992, bloomed in 2000 and is now developing 1 flowerstalk. May bloom again next year, as it has anoter big rosette. in 2000 I failed pollinating it, this year I will try again and reproduce Sperenger's hybrid Yucca flaccida x rupicola and visa versa.
500 Yucca hybrid #500. 9 flowerstalks.
1336C Yucca filamentosa (with red flowerstalk). 1 flowerstalk.
1402 Yucca sp. hybrid #1402, 1 flowerstalk.
1454 Yucca 'Karlsruhensis type 2' 2 flowerstalks.
870B Yucca arkansana. Wide leafed form. fh605.5, Oklahoma, Beckam Co., 550 m.1 flowerstalk.
49 Yucca flaccida. Four groups of plants, will be blooming with totally 22 flowerstalks.
There might be one or two more, which I haven't noticed yet.
I will of course upload photos of them to my website, when they bloom.
Have a nice flowerseason everyone.
Kind regards
Benny M. Jensen
