Hey Rob,
I know how freakish low temps can be. We had 0F here along the SE coast of NC in 89 at Christmas time on top of a record snow fall. It can be a decade here without snow and minimum lows are normally in the teens. As you no doubt are aware there are various tree type yuccas and palms on virtually every street in someones yard here and also growing in waste places and along the beach. There was plenty of damage but no yuccas died to the best of my knowledge. Your freak -25 temp should have killed all but the best protected aloifolia that's for sure. Bet your grandmas stand has hundreds of pounds of tubers under it. A deep tuber and short term freeze with snow cover would sure make for survival. Wasn't doubting your veracity. Just took the
-25F hardiness claim as a general one.
