Hi Rob.....great looking Yucca. I'd plant the stem 3 or 4 feet off the wall like Jim said.
Another question....where did you get it? My gut is telling me it's not a torreyi but it's a VERY interesting Yucca. Torreyi's typically have filaments along the leaf edge. Treculeanas don't have filaments or very rarely have a few small ones.
It almost appears this Yucca is some sort of hybrid between torreyi/treculeana and an east coast Yucca like gloriosa/recurvifolia. Please post another photo of this Yucca next season when a little larger.
