HELP- my yucca plant is dying!
Posted by Mike on May 31, 2016, 5:05 pm
Hi everyone, I've had my yucca plant for about 2 months. When I first got it all the leaves were dark green and pointing straight up. About 2 weeks after I got the plant the tips of the leaves turned yellow and than brown. I have been watering every week or two and I never water too much so the plant isn't sitting in water. However, the first time I watered it I gave it too much water so I kept draining the clay disk the pot was in so it wouldn't be sitting in a puddle. I'm thinking it has root rot or not enough sunlight? I have the plant in the corner and there's a balcony above me blocking direct sunlight but I had a Dracaena there before and sunlight wasn't an issue. Please help!

Sorry to hear about your Yucca. I don't think it's a light issue. I can only assume it's root rot. What type of soil did you use? Yuccas will not tolerate soggy soil. They require well draining soil. I'd plant in a container so after watering you can see if there is water in the bottom. Ideally water in the sink or outside and let it drain for 5 min. No fertilizer except light application in early summer.
