Hope you are all doing well.
We just got back from San Antonio and Gene got a good report on his CT scans - no new growth since the last scans (12/3/07); so, he is eligible to continue in the Phase II Drug Development Study that he has been in since early December and took the first dose of his first five day treatment today while we were at the CTRC (Cancer Research and Treatment Center). Fortunately, also, he will not have to return there on day 5 of each 5 day treatment cycle - he will take the remaining 4 days of treatment at home and then have nine days off from the meds and then go back on day 14 of the cycle to get more meds (as well as a complete physical and blood work). So, we will be going to SA only once every two weeks now instead of twice. Then, after a total of four rounds of the five on meds, nine off, he will have another set of CT scans 3/28). They are scanning practically his entire body, so that is reassuring.
We did not get to see the "Study Dr." or the "Study Nurse" today but will see them on 2/15 when he is back to start the next round of treatment. They will probaby give us more detailed information on the specific tumor status; but, the Study Dr. was in "study" today and did determine that Gene's tumors have not grown so, as I said, is still eligible for the trial and that's what matters.
He is doing good day to day and still working a full week, of course. He has really been amazing thru all of this.
Thanks for all your prayers!!! They're working!!!
Susie is doing well, too. Getting a little "rounded". She's playing with the San Angelo Symphony this weekend and intends to slow down on her playing after this, although she has a recital next Thurs. 2/7 - to which I am going, now that we have the GREAT NEWS on Gene!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sending our love to all of you,
Jamie Sue & Gene Alton
