Re: Different Memory

No, Kaye, you were not "long gone" from FHS the day the Route 66 deal happened. It was early one morning in April, 1963 and I was on my way to school. I had to stop at the red light on Hwy. 80 by Lee - Gray Chevy. I saw a long line of Route 66 television production trucks, as well as a car hauler with the two gold 1963 Corvette convertibles on board as well as a white 1963 Impala SS409 convertible. They were parked headed West alongside Hwy.80. The staff had stopped to eat breakfast on the Ole South Café. A crew guy was doing some light maintenance on a truck and he told me Route 66 had just finished filming a series of shows in the Tampa - St. Pete area of Florida and they were headed back to Los Angeles. He was very kind and let me sit in the "B" Corvette, which was the back-up Corvette to the main car used in most of the filming. Chevrolet sponsored Route 66 so the show got new Corvettes during each model year and the old Corvettes from the past year were promptly crushed by Chevrolet because they had no VIN numbers and could not be driven on the street. The entire Route 66 series is still available in a 4 DVD boxed set.
