I agree. This year my attention has been focused on Hummingbirds. Due to some storm damage last year, we are minus an elm tree just outside the patio. For years I had placed a hummer feeder on one of the limbs of that elm tree. No luck. They were not attracted to the feeder. I know the hummers were in the area, because neighbors had them and I occasionally saw them visiting my flowers. But they were not interested in the sugar water...precisely measured recipe!....that I placed in the feeder on the elm branch. This year....with no elm tree anymore, I placed a feeder on a shepherd’s hook exactly where the elm tree had stood. Guess what! I have hummers waiting in line and even fighting over that feeder! I love them. They are not the least bit afraid of me. In fact, when I drink my morning coffee outside, I have concerns that they might think my multi floral pj’s are yet another food source for them to try out! Mr P, the bird box you made us is still standing tall and proud. It has housed several families of birds each season...but not bluebirds. I think they might want more privacy than I can offer. But I do love whatever variety happens to set up housekeeping each year. Our yard is fairly noisy with the huge variety of songs we have.
