Linda Lucas was my first friend when we moved to Forest in the Spring of 1951. We lived in the Christian Subdivision on Bailey Street and the Lucas family lived next door. The first time I saw her was when she walked down the sidewalk and over to my house wearing the cutest little pair of cowgirl boots! We played together a lot during that first summer. They eventually moved over to a new house across from the Elementary school. Her mother was a very talented seamstress and made some really pretty dresses for me over the years. I still have a beautiful red chiffon dress that she made. It is a special sadness when you hear of the passing of your first friend in your hometown. My prayers are with her sister Joann and her daughter Sunny and family.
