Tonight I’ve got to honor my dear dear parents by listening online to the 100th year broadcast of the Grand Ole Opry. Daddy was 31 the year the Opry started on Nashville’s WSM. (Born in 1894 - can you believe it?) Mama was 25, born the same year as the Opry. That show, successful from its beginning, was a source of pure joy to my precious lifetime tenant-farming Mississippi parents. I’m 80 years old and love my parents, my 10 sisters, and my 6 brothers more than life itself.
In a few weeks you can read about those special parents (and the Opry, Southern poverty, genuine familial love, cotton, faith, my unbelievable siblings, and much more) in my book, The Hard and the Beautiful. Sure hope you’ll look for it on Amazon and also ask for it at Barnes and Noble.
My family was as rich as we were poor and I believe the book just might prove it. Thanks, great Facebook friends. Please help me spread the word.
