We’ve lost another Bearcat. Very sad to hear this. I remember Lorraine fondly. She was so sweet to those of us who were wannabe majorettes.
Lorraine B. Watkins, age 78, passed away Thursday, February 27, 2020, in Hattiesburg following an extended illness. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:30pm Saturday, February 29, 2020, from the chapel of the Ott & Lee Funeral Home in Forest with interment to follow in the Homewood Methodist Cemetery. Rev. Reggie Tatum will officiate. Irene Martin will provide the music and Heather Hayman is the soloist. Visitation will also be held from 1pm till service time at the funeral home. Mrs. Watkins was born in Scott County on Thursday, November 6, 1941, to her parents, Lloyd D. Brown, and Ruby Johns Brown. She graduated Forest High School and attended Hinds Junior College where she was a member of the Hinds High Steppers. She married John W. Watkins in 1962 and together, they began their life. After John’s death, she started work at the Bank of Forest. She worked there until her retirement in March 2016. She loved people and her work at the Bank of Forest. She was a wonderful, loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She enjoyed life, loved her family, friends and attending church. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John W. Watkins, Sr. and brother, Vivian Brown. Survivors include her children Cindy Oubre and her husband David of Purvis, Johnny Watkins of Forest and her 4 grandchildren, John David Oubre, Anna Oubre, John Michael Watkins, and Kristen Bankston, 3 great-grandchildren, Parker Cruz Bankston, Sailor Grace Bankston, and Asher Cole Bankston. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews, cousins, and a host of friends. Pallbearers are John Michael Watkins, John David Oubre, Mason Pitfield, Terry Watkins, Spencer Tullos, and Kyle Bankston.
