Yesterday, I was in the Delta, and a man who is probably one of the wealthiest men up there said to me that from his interactions with people from Forest over the years, ours must have been a very cultured society. I really hadn't thought about it, but said I guess he was right. We had a band that made all superior for some 28 years or so, several who made Lions Band every year, a choral music program second to none, with quartets, sextets, mixed quartets, and so forth which won at state contests each year. Most of us took Latin, and Spanish was offered, also. We had excellent academic teachers for the most part and great vocational programs as well. I guess we were pretty cultured, after all, in spite of a few of us whose efforts at life seemed to be anything but. I thought it was quite a compliment to hear him say that.

Indeed it was a special place. We were mostly quite congenial to each other and were there to help when someone needed a helping hand. By the way, I think the band made it to 30 years before the balloon burst!

We were blessed to have so many fine professionals who enriched our lives and a community that watched out for its children...
