Jowanna Douglas Obituary Beloved mother and wife Jowanna Looper Douglas passed away May 31, 2024, at home after a lengthy illness. She was born March 25, 1943 in Alexandria, Louisiana, to Lessie Walker Looper McNutt and James Armon Looper. She graduated from Pineville High School and Northwestern State University. She was a member of Sigma Kappa sorority. She worked as a medical technologist for years until she had kids. When her baby turned 20, she renewed her med tech license and went back to work. For decades, she was one of LSU women's basketball's most loyal fans, traveling all over to games. She enjoyed dressing to the nines and accessorizing. She loved her perfume that smelled like gardenias and wore it well. She was an artist, painting irises and cranes. Even though creating art was a hobby, she was a perfectionist and would sometimes repaint a single flower multiple times. She was a member of Baton Rouge Garden Club and created incredible floral arrangements. She was one of those people who showed up. She went to all the games. She organized the school carnival for years. She was the homeroom mom. She made birthday cakes from scratch. She was smart and made sure both her husband and daughter graduated from college. The family is grateful to Allison Robertson and Elsie Plain, her sitters and Cardinal Hospice. She is survived by Stanley G. Douglas of Baton Rouge. He was her loving husband of 58 years who devoted much of his life to loving her and providing the best care possible, her daughter, Traci Douglas Moreau (Ben) of Denham Springs, daughter-in-law, Dara Douglas Wilson (Doc) of Foxworth, Mississippi. Her grandchildren: Kirkland DeLaune, Carter DeLaune, Nicholas Moreau, Zachary Moreau, McKenna Douglas and Carter Howell. Her sister, Barbara Riley (James) of Beaumont, Texas, her brother, James A. Looper, Jr. (Joanie) of Alexandria, Louisiana and numerous nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Terry James Douglas, who was waiting for her with a giant bear hug when she got to heaven. The family will host a memorial service at 2 p.m. June 6 at Graceworks Church, 16131 Highway 44, Prairieville, Louisiana. The service will be officiated by Pastor Bill Pruitt.
